No RFGP Show Today

Jeff called me today and noted that his wife has broken one of her legs today, and sprained the other.  For lack of a more sophisticated way to put it, they’ve had a hell of a day.  So we made the executive decision to put our show off so we can have a better focus.

Feel free to peruse the archives and enjoy a past show and we will be back in the saddle next Friday.

No Show Today

As I was finishing the intro segment to today’s show my mother called me and told me that my grandfather had passed away.  He had been diagnosed with bone cancer for quite some time now and his health has been fading.

To the extent you can be prepared for death, we were.  Before his health was waning, he gave me almost all of his tobacco pipes and they have become my flagships for pipe-smoking (yes…only in moderation while practicing temperance).

There has been something therapeutic about having them I suppose.  Almost like keeping a piece of him with me.

The Hunger Games Trilogy Boxset – if you haven’t read the Hunger Games, I recommend.

NurtureShock: New Thinking About Children – great book PACKED with good parenting information.  Jeff and I are going to attempt to do a series over this book, but it may take a year since it’s so rich.

1984 (Signet Classics)– this book has left me speechless, and thinking more than I ever have before over the concept of power and totalitarian control.
