With no further adieu, lets get into the Top 10 Family Podcast Network Episodes:
Red denotes personal favorites.
#1: Episode 3_Building Up Your Kids
In this we discuss the most the most important aspect of parenting…building up your kids and how when you do, you get what you want from them. More obedience. We will discuss what actual research says about it and how we as parents can apply this to experience the joys of not pulling out our hair!!
#2 Episode 10_Discipline: To Whoop or Not to Whoop
In this episode we discuss my stance on spanking and why it’s probably NOT what you’re thinking. We also go over what modern spanking is and the effects I’m seeing in my office because of it, what types of relationships are fostered with the “95%-type spanking” I see and other forms of discipline that are effective.
#3 Episode 11_Kids as Our Mirrors
Here we discuss how many of the really bad behaviors we see from our kids are not taught by the kids at daycare, the adolescents they hang out with or from TV. They are learned by us. DISCLAIMER: this episode is not for thin skinned or over-sensitive individuals.
#4 Episode 13_Kids and Individualized Attention
Here we talk about the two different types of attention, and how most families are not giving individualized attention to their kiddos. We briefly discuss how favoritism can be formed and how it can often push kids away and lead to poor behaviors.
#5 Episode 14_Rewarding Motivation and Not Just Our Kids Actions
For this episode I go over how positive reinforcement is your friend as a parent and how it motivates to do the right thing and promotes good behavior EVEN when we’re not watching! I cover the “pebble system” that my wife and I use quite successfully as well as why we need to build our kids respect just as much as we expect them to earn ours.
#6 Episode 15_Parenting/Teaching Styles that Just Don’t Work
Here I discuss the different types of parenting styles I have seen that just don’t work, why they fail and the alternative form of styles that I have seen be successful with everything from parenting to teaching in classrooms.
#7 Episode 16_Carpe Diem Parenting: Yes I Think So!
One of my personal favorites. This episode is in direct response to to an article written by Glennon at The Huffington Post where she notes that she is fed up with the “carpe diem” styled parenting. I make a case for why it is in fact a very good style and how parenting really can be great with just sprinkled amounts of dread rather than the opposite.
#8 Episode 19_Play with Your Kiddos
This episode covers the importance of playing with kids and how it absolutely must be a staple in your household. We discuss reordering priorities, ideas on how to play, and how play actually encourages obedience from our kids.
#9 Episode 29_Being Firm with Kids
Episode 29 deals with how to be firm with our kids without being hard on them. Yes…there is a difference!
#10 Episode 50_Case Study With My Kids: Encouraging Trying
Another of my personal favorites. I performed a 2 month case study with the effects of praising my kids for trying again rather than on how they did. We discuss the results and whether my kids did better for praise on trying or on their actual performance.
